The re-recording of my Skepticon speech

I thought I was getting over my laryngitis in time for my presentation at Skepticon, but as I approached the mic, my voice gave out again.  There I was on stage in a Civic Center, doing an impression of Vin Deisel playing the Iron Giant.  I talked for 45 minutes like that.  I didn’t have a choice.  But I wasn’t going to upload that video.  There were other issues too, video segments that wouldn’t play and so on.  So once I got my voice back, I recorded the speech as a voice-over narration in the kind of video I used to make, back before I had to write a new and original speech every month.  I enjoy doing these.  I wish I had time to do more.

  1. Thank you for making this video. It sure does bring back memories. Hopefully you get some more time in the future to make some more.

  2. Thanks for doing this. I tried to listen to the Skepticon version but it was painful. I’m glad you’re feeling better.

  3. I read recently that molecular evidence taken from a broader sampling of taxa suggest that turtles are actually diapsids that have secondarily lost both temporal fenestra. Have you heard this?

  4. Fantastic video!

I would like to hear more about your justification for classification of Scorpions as distinct from arachnids..

That might deserve its own video at some point. Did you say they should be classified as eurypterid?

that stuff really needs to be talked about, i think i`d really enjoy your take on chelicerate taxonomy.

  5. It was a wonderful presentation. I know you have an actual life, but I would love it if you found time to do more videos of this type.

  6. I was thrilled to see this pop up in my feed yesterday. Wonderful talk. It would be great for creationists to hear this because it illustrates evolutionary science without hammering directly on their beliefs. Educational without being overtly confrontational.

  7. Thanks so much! I hated having to skip your presentation when i found it, i just couldn’t take listening to your voice like that. Possibly an example of mirror neurons? Who knows 🙂

    Thanks again for your effort!

  8. I can just see some of the xtians I know watching your video….

“lots of big words that don’t mean anything.”

“Another evilutionist trying to sound smart.”

“spawn of satan! U will Fry in HELL!!”

I thoroughly enjoyed your talk and realize to was not made to convert any but rather to illuminate the flying lizard-dinosaur-bird relationships which many skeptics don’t really understand. I’m one of your fans but even so the breath of your knowledge is impressive.

  9. On a slightly related note: Ken Ham is once again complaining that no “evolutionists’ will debate him!

Something I’ve noticed about many evolutionists is that they don’t like to debate biblical creationists.

Now that your voice is better, maybe you can take him up on his offer and see what his reaction is. (again!)

It was already pointed out on this blog comment that he took off from you once.
